The Global Goals bring together individuals, governments, businesses, international organizations, civil society, and others to work toward a more sustainable future. Launched in 2015 by the United Nations, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collective call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure all people enjoy peace and prosperity. Every September, Global Goals week is hosted in New York City as an anniversary celebration of the SDGs being agreed at the United Nations.

As an opportunity to raise awareness and create momentum, Global Goals Week brings attention to all 17 goals at once. By sharing ideas, solutions, and partnerships, global citizens around the world are becoming engaged and involved in progress of action and sustainable development.

From September 16-23, 2017, a number of exciting events, speakers, innovative ideas, and challenges will draw attention to the Global Goals. Visit the Take Action Blog tomorrow for a more detailed summary of this week’s events and livestream opportunities.

“Be a global citizen.  Act with passion and compassion.  Help us make this world safer and more sustainable today and for the generations that will follow us.  That is our moral responsibility.” – Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General 2007-2016

GlobalGoals.org has recently released a Global Goals Week toolkit that can be used in your school or community! Through the toolkit, find ways to share the Global Goals with others and start creating sustainable change through new ideas, initiatives, and more!

  2. Watch & Share – Global Goals have collaborated in making 5 feature videos available for public sharing. Videos by Targets4Action, VICE Impact, Goalkeepers, AfricaCreates.org, and the UNDP all highlight different perspectives and stories involved in taking action.
  3. Events – The toolkit highlights main events that are both live and online. Included is a 3-part guide to creating your own social good meet-up!
  4. #Goalkeepers17 – Read, share, watch, and create a #Goalkeepers17 GIF in support of this initiative. Launched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Goalkeepers will highlight the data and the stories behind the data every year until 2030, showing progress from a different perspective.
  5. World’s Largest Lesson 2017 – The World’s Largest Lesson aims to make the goals relevant to every child, bringing stories, action, and resources to classrooms worldwide. The World’s Largest Lesson 2017 launched on September 18, 2017, and focuses on food! Find more information here!
  6. Download the App – Stay involved and up to date with the official Sustainable Development Goals Action app that features the latest progress and shareable content.
  7. Create your own campaigning materials – Use this tool to create graphics and posters for Goals 1-5 by using your own data and inputting it into the images. Create uniquely generated material for specific campaigns!
  8. “What’s Missing?” Game – Play the online game here and learn more about how to take action on the goals.

Targets4Action is a Global Goals initiative that brings the 17 goals to life. Each goal has a number of targets we, as a global community, want to achieve by 2030. However, sometimes these targets are not always easy to understand or imagine. Targets4Action is an illustrated guide to the goals that explores each target for each goal, creating a deeper understanding all around. Visit the website to learn more:  targets4action.org
