OPPORTUNITY: Voices for Change – Youth Spoken Word Project
We want to hear your voice!
THE BASICS
Voices for Change is a spoken word project hosted by the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation. The project invites Manitoba youth (ages 14-24) to explore social justice through the arts by writing a collaborative spoken word piece and performing it live!
In four sessions, participants will learn about international development and this year’s theme of gender equality, collaborate with a professional spoken word artist, record a video with Tripwire Media, and perform the piece live during International Development Week 2019.
Application deadline: October 26, 2018, 11:59 PM
NITTY GRITTY
Manitoba youth (ages 14-24) who are interested in spoken word, or related skills like drama, poetry, writing, or hip-hop, and have a passion for social justice are encouraged to apply. The project will be an outlet for youth voices, bringing awareness to important issues through a creative platform.
Throughout the sessions, participants will explore international development and gender equality issues. The sessions will be led by MCIC staff and Steve Locke, a Winnipeg-based spoken word artist. Working together, participants will collaborate and write an original piece, showcasing the power of youth voices. In February, a live performance for the general public, friends and family, MCIC member agencies, and Manitoba politicians will celebrate International Development Week 2019. Their final piece will live on in a video recorded and produced by Tripwire Media, a professional media company, allowing global citizens everywhere to hear and share Manitoba voices.
